A long-standing meet record fell on Saturday as the Tornadoes Swim Meet continued at the National Stadium Aquatic Centre, with William of Sharks Swim Club winning the 200-metre individual medley in 2 minutes 34.32 seconds.

The swim placed him ahead of Sharks teammate Noah Kim and Stephen Foufong of Swimaz Aquatics. The former mark stood at 2 minutes 35.05 seconds and had been set by Tornadoes swimmer Dominic Lee in 1999.

Reflecting on the performance, William said he focused on carrying out his coach's plan. "I was just trying my best and following the instructions my coach gave me. And when I touched the wall and saw the time I was very happy."

It was his second record-breaking swim of the meet. He had also lowered a mark on Friday, the opening day, in the 200 flat. "Yesterday when I swam the 200 flat, I just tried my best that I could do in that time. And then I broke the record even though it was not the best I could have done," he said.

The Tornadoes Swim Meet is scheduled to close on Sunday.
