Negril man charged over fatal shooting of restaurant owner Nashon McGibbon
Police have charged a 21-year-old Westmoreland man following the May 22 killing of Negril restaurant owner Nashon McGibbon, who was also known as “Bubba” or “Bubbanash”.
Joshua Vaz, otherwise called “Josh”, of Negril, Westmoreland, has been charged with murder, wounding with intent, robbery with aggravation, and using a firearm to commit a felony. The charges relate to a shooting at McGibbon’s restaurant in the parish.
Information from the Savanna-la-Mar Criminal Investigation Branch says McGibbon, 36, was at his business about 8:40 pm when Vaz and another man allegedly attacked him. Police reports say the men fired at McGibbon, striking him several times.
Investigators further allege that McGibbon tried to escape, but the attackers chased him and kept shooting. Afterward, the men reportedly stole a bag from him that had a laptop and an unknown amount of cash inside.
A European visitor was also hit in the left shoulder during the incident.
Vaz was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 26, during a police operation in Whitehall, Westmoreland. Police say he was officially charged on Friday, June 5, after being positively identified. A date for his court appearance is being arranged.
