Kingston man, 21, charged with murder in Freeman Lane fatal shooting

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 21-year-old Kingston resident has been charged with murder and several firearms offences in connection with a deadly shooting in the capital on March 1.
Investigators identified the accused as Andre Brown, also called 'Biggs', of a Kingston address. He faces counts of murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony. The charges relate to the death of Tyrick Peart, 26, also of Kingston, on Freeman Lane in the parish on Sunday, March 1.
Hunts Bay police said that shortly before 9:00 pm that night, Brown, carrying a gun and with other people present, confronted Peart and shot at him before leaving the area. Once the gunfire stopped, Peart was found with multiple gunshot injuries. He was taken to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
After a probe into the incident, officers detained Brown during an operation in St Ann on Monday, May 18. He was formally charged following recorded statements and a question-and-answer session. A date for him to appear in court is still being fixed.
