A man police describe as an alleged serial sex offender has been charged in connection with two separate matters after members of the St Catherine South Fugitive Apprehension Team took him into custody in deep rural Gordon Hall, Epsom, St Mary.
According to the police, the suspect was charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition that officers say was recovered when he was apprehended. He was also charged with sexual assault, robbery, and forcible abduction linked to one of the cases for which he had been wanted.
His identity has not been made public, with authorities noting that further identification parades are still to be held. Investigators believe he may be connected to more than 11 sexual offences reported in various parts of Jamaica. He is also said to have prior convictions on several counts, including sexual assault.
The arrest has brought renewed attention to calls for the sexual offenders registry to be opened to the public, so residents can better identify convicted sex offenders once they are released from prison.
