Award-Winning Journalist Giovanni Dennis Named JIS CEO

Kingston

Award-winning journalist Giovanni Dennis has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS).

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Dr. Kasan Troupe, formally introduced Mr. Dennis to the agency’s leadership team during a meeting at the JIS headquarters on Half-Way Tree Road in Kingston on Monday, June 1.

Dr. Troupe expressed confidence in the new CEO’s ability to build on the agency’s achievements and drive further growth.

“You have the foundation set, but what we want now is to take it to another level,” she said.

She noted that the JIS is staffed by a highly trained and dedicated team committed to fulfilling the agency’s mandate.

“Your job, as the leader, is to inspire and to sustain an efficient machinery that is trusted, that can get the work done on time with quality,” Dr. Troupe added.

In his remarks, Mr. Dennis said he was delighted to return to the JIS, having briefly worked at the agency in 2016.

“I am aware of the work that the JIS does and the excellent employees and staff here, because I benefited from that during the short time I was here in 2016. After a decade and three months to the day, I feel like this is a full-circle moment for me,” he said.

Mr. Dennis described the appointment as the most significant responsibility of his professional career.

“This is, for me, the biggest undertaking of my entire professional career. I will approach it as I approach every single undertaking, quite simply, with all my heart,” he affirmed.

The new CEO said he is eager to embrace the challenge of leading the agency into its next phase of development.

Before joining the JIS, Mr. Dennis served as Managing Editor for News and Current Affairs at CVM TV. He is a former Chevening Scholar, a two-time Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) Journalist of the Year award recipient, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media and Communication with a Radio Specialisation from the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC). He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from City St George’s, University of London.

Deputy CEO Celia Lindsay, who had been serving as Acting CEO since the retirement of Enthrose Campbell in January 2025, welcomed Mr. Dennis and pledged the team’s full support.

“We are looking forward to working smarter with you so that we will be able to accomplish our goals. You have a team that is ready to support you and to run your leg of the race with you,” she said.

Ms. Lindsay also expressed gratitude to the JIS staff for their support during the year and a half she led the agency in an acting capacity.
