Christopher Martin Marks 21 Years In Music, Teases Summer Project

Veteran singer Christopher Martin says staying power has become one of the defining traits of his career, two decades after first breaking through on Digicel Rising Stars in 2005.

In a recent sit-down with the Jamaica Observer, the 'Big Deal' singer said he no longer feels pressure to prove himself. Instead, he focuses on showing up with gratitude and a steady mindset.

“With everything in life there’s challenges and rewards, so we have to learn to just take our punches, roll with it, and make the best of every situation,” he said.

Looking back on a journey that now stretches past 21 years, Martin admitted that remaining relevant in an industry built on constant reinvention is no small accomplishment, though he prefers to frame the milestone through appreciation rather than endurance.

“It’s been 21 years in the business for me and, to still be relevant, it’s a blessing,” he said. “Mi give thanks to the fans. Without the people this journey wouldn’t have got to where it’s at, and so I’m grateful.”

That appreciation, he noted, is fuelling what comes next. His current single, 'Don’t Have to Ask,' is picking up steam alongside its accompanying music video, and Martin says listeners should brace for a larger release in the months ahead.

“Right now we have a single out that’s doing well… and we have a body of work coming out this summer, so just gwaan look out,” he said. “A lot is going to happen; whole heap a new Schweppes. We can’t give away too much just yet, but just know, it’s going to be good.”
