Deep Jahi details music business setbacks in Raw Truth
Deep Jahi says his latest single, Raw Truth, is a personal account of the highs and hard lessons that have followed his 2012 Magnum King of Dancehall win, not an attempt to attack the people named in the song.
The dancehall artiste said the competition helped make him widely known, but he believes the momentum after that victory was not fully developed. He recalled working with Rockstone Media, linked to Serani and Julian, after Magnum, and said his name got exposure but the kind of full branding, packaging and promotion he expected did not follow.
Deep Jahi, known for Life Goes On and other songs, said he eventually began pushing his career on his own. He later connected with producer TJ, but described that period as another situation where he expected more structure around his talent. He said he signed the arrangement himself and accepts responsibility for doing so, even though the outcome was not what he anticipated.
He said his career later gained stronger footing through links with the YGF camp and a subsequent deal with Craft World. That progress was interrupted by a health scare involving his larynx or vocal cord, which required surgery and a recovery period. He said the song Recover speaks to that experience.
According to Deep Jahi, Raw Truth sums up a stretch of his life in music, including disappointment, money spent without expected returns and situations where communication around business went silent. He said the track is meant to show that obstacles are part of the journey and that he has no regrets because the experiences helped shape him.
He also acknowledged that the song has stirred social media discussion. Deep Jahi said if anyone named in the record has another version of events, they are free to speak, but he is presenting his side. He said the reaction from fans has renewed his hunger and drive, and suggested his demand and price for dubplates have risen.
Deep Jahi said he still believes strongly in his ability and Jamaica knows his potential. His album, Diary of a King, is expected soon, with the artiste saying he is ready to show listeners what he can still deliver.
