Digicel Business brings Microsoft Teams calling to the Caribbean with the region’s only operator connect service

2 min read

Digicel Business, in partnership with global telephony platform provider, LoopUp, today launched the Caribbean’s only Operator Connect service for Microsoft Teams, giving enterprises across the region a fully managed, Microsoft-certified route to consolidate their business telecommunications.

With the new service, employees can make and receive internal and external calls using Microsoft Teams from any device, including PC, mobile, tablet, desk phone or meeting room device to provide a truly unified communications experience.

The service provides a simpler, more cost-effective path to enterprise calling without the complexity of legacy PBX systems or on-premises SBC infrastructure, while allowing businesses to retain their existing Digicel numbers or port numbers from other providers.

The launch reflects a broader shift in how enterprises communicate and collaborate. As hybrid and remote work models become permanent, organisations are increasingly moving away from traditional on-premises phone systems toward cloud-based communications platforms that integrate calling, meetings, messaging, and collaboration into a single experience.

AI-infused cloud communications platforms are becoming the strategic direction of the UC market, with Microsoft championing this with Teams Calling UC capabilities being a differentiator.

“Businesses across the Caribbean are rethinking how they communicate and collaborate,” said Liam Donnelly, Chief Business Officer for Digicel Group. “Customers want more flexibility, simpler deployment models and communications platforms that better support hybrid work. By launching the region’s only certified Operator Connect service, we’re giving enterprises a simpler, Microsoft-validated path to modern business calling within Teams, backed by Digicel’s regional network and support teams.”

Operator Connect is Microsoft’s certified deployment method for Teams calling, designed to simplify deployment, improve reliability and boost quality. The service adds a flagship enterprise voice capability to Digicel Business’s growing portfolio of managed cloud services, which supports thousands of organisations across financial services, hospitality, government, energy and other sectors that have standardised on Microsoft Teams.

The partnership also strengthens Digicel Business’s ability to support customers across the Caribbean and beyond through a single deployment model, one account management structure and seamless service delivery across regional and global operations. In addition, LoopUp’s multinational customers with a presence in the Caribbean can benefit from local service provisioning and support delivered over Digicel’s regional network.

“Digicel Business is the natural partner to bring Operator Connect to the Caribbean and Central America at scale,” said Steve Flavell, co-CEO of LoopUp. “Their regional reach and trusted enterprise relationships, combined with our global Teams telephony platform, give Digicel Business customers a simple, Microsoft-certified path to Teams calling on a service we already operate in more than 100 countries.”

The partnership further strengthens Digicel Business’s Microsoft capabilities, providing customers with access to expertise across Teams, Microsoft 365 and Azure solutions.

The service will be available to Digicel Business customers from July 2026.
