Portland farmer killed in Hope Bay chopping attack, suspect held

Police are probing the killing of a farmer in the Content area of Hope Bay, Portland, after a deadly attack unfolded there shortly after midday on Thursday. Early information is that the man was set upon by another male and received severe chop wounds to his head and upper body. He died from those injuries. Investigators have not yet released his name.

The man believed to be responsible is now in police custody while detectives work to determine exactly what led to the killing. The case is the latest murder recorded in the Portland Police Division. The Jamaica Constabulary Force's latest crime figures show the division had logged two homicides between January 1 and June 27 this year.
