Flow Jamaica details customer steps for new 5G mobile service
Flow Jamaica's Head of Marketing, Latoy Lawrence, has set out what mobile customers need to access the company's newly launched 5G service as the operator moves to help subscribers benefit from what it describes as Jamaica's fastest mobile network.
Lawrence said company leadership views the rollout as another milestone in Flow's network development. With 5G now live, he said the real work lies in making sure customers are prepared to use the technology — a challenge operators face in every market that has made a similar investment.
To experience 5G, Flow mobile subscribers need two things: a 5G-compatible handset and a 5G-compatible SIM card. Internal data show roughly one quarter of the customer base already meets both requirements and has been waiting for the network to go live.
For everyone else, Lawrence said Flow is working to make the transition as straightforward as possible. He noted that he personally had a 5G handset but still needed to complete a SIM swap before he could use the service.
To address SIM compatibility, Flow is offering free SIM card upgrades at all 15 company-owned stores across the island. Customers who are unsure whether they need an upgrade can dial *5555# to check their status.
Subscribers who complete a non-LTE SIM switch will receive bonus data, and postpaid customers will get a discount on their next bill as part of efforts to remove barriers to 5G readiness.
Lawrence said Flow will keep customers informed about what 5G is, what equipment they need, what to expect from the service, and how to get the best performance from the network.
On devices, he noted that handsets connect to the network from various sources — some purchased in the United States, others from Flow retail outlets — and come in different model types. Customers are encouraged to check their phone settings to confirm 5G compatibility.
In the coming weeks, Flow plans to significantly expand its range of competitively priced devices in stores. Customers will be able to access 5G handsets at discounted prices and on flexible payment plans over 12 or 24 months. Special rewards will also be offered to new customers, Lawrence said, as the company seeks to make it easier for people to join Flow and move to 5G.
