Guyana Targets End to Housing Waitlist by 2027 Outside Region Four

1 min read

Guyanese President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has pledged that authorities will wipe out the national housing waitlist by the close of 2027, with Region Four left outside that timetable.

Officials have already handed out upwards of 53,000 residential lots. Even so, as many as 78,000 applications remain outstanding as more people seek homes.

Ali indicated that the state is speeding up fresh housing developments, purchases of land, and supporting works to ease the shortfall. Parallel efforts are widening low-cost housing options and loan schemes so a larger share of Guyanese households can buy their own properties.
