House set to table Integrity Commission report on Minister Andrew Wheatley

1 min readSt. Catherine

An Integrity Commission investigation into the financial affairs of Cabinet Minister Dr Andrew Wheatley is scheduled to be laid before the House of Representatives on Wednesday, according to a notice issued to lawmakers during the sitting now in progress.

The same parliamentary notice indicates that an indicative ruling from the Director of Corruption Prosecution on the matter will also be tabled.

The document circulated to members states that the commission's report examines concerns that Dr Andrew Wheatley, as Member of Parliament, for the years 2010 to 2022, owns or acquired assets disproportionate to his lawful earnings, made false statements in his statutory declarations, and failed to provide information requested from him by the Director of Information and Complaints, contrary to law, along with its indicative ruling.

The notice further warns that listed papers "may be subject to amendments without prior notification."

Neither the report nor the ruling is expected to be tabled until after members have finished their contributions to the Sectoral Debate. Tabling is the parliamentary process through which documents are formally made public.

Wheatley is a senior figure in the governing Jamaica Labour Party and serves as Minister Without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, with responsibility for science, technology and special projects. He represents St Catherine South Central in the Lower House.

A scientist by training, he previously held the portfolio of Minister of Science, Technology and Mining. He resigned from Cabinet in July 2018 amid controversy and investigations linked to the operations of state-owned oil refinery Petrojam.

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness returned Wheatley to the executive following the September 2025 general election.
