Strong sprint marks at JAAA Puma meet two as Stadium East programme rolls on
The second JAAA Puma development meet of the season took place on Friday, 16 May 2026, at Stadium East, with a full evening programme across sprints, hurdles, and one-lap races.
In the women’s 200 metres, Nika Hart of Papine High won her section in 23.52 seconds. Lavana Williams posted 23.09 seconds with a slight headwind in another heat, finishing ahead of Jodine Williams at 23.15. Denique Williams of Kingston College later won a two-athlete section in 26.49 seconds over Johanna Sims of Old Harbour, who crossed in 30.00.
The men’s 200 metres ran across multiple sections. Kimar Richards of Herbert Morrison Technical won his heat in 22.78 seconds with legal wind. Taekwondo Tracy clocked 21.10 seconds in heat seven. Carson won a section in 21.99 seconds, dipping under 22 seconds. Kevon Benjamin ran 20.78 seconds in the penultimate heat, but the wind reading of +2.3 m/s was above the allowable limit for record purposes. The final heat went to Racers Track Club athletes in the low-20-second range, with wind also above legal limits.
Under-20 girls over 100 metres hurdles went to Malia Duncan. In the senior women’s hurdles, Amelia Chatfield of Elite Performance Track Club won a two-athlete race ahead of Italy Nelson of UTech. Boys under-19 over 110 metres hurdles saw Tajanil Gordon, in Kingston College colours, take the first heat; Shakira Lewis of Jamaica College won the second in 14.10 seconds. Adario Phillips of MVP Track Club won the men’s 110 metres hurdles in 14.04 seconds.
The women’s 100 metres produced six sections. TyTerri Long of Optimum won the opening heat in 11.17 seconds with a +2.9 m/s wind. Ashanti Moore of Sprint took section two in 11.23. Sheldane Jarrett of William Knibb won section three in 12.07. Crystal Sloley of UTech ran 11.41 in section four. Samoa Brown of Immaculate Conception won section five in 11.91, and Serena Cole edged Alexis James in the final section, 11.53 to 11.55.
The men’s 100 metres featured 16 heats. In the opening race, Ackeem Blake won in 9.97 seconds with wind at +2.1 m/s, ahead of Rohan Watson at 10.10 and Sachin Dennis at 10.16. Javari Thomas of GC Foster College took heat two in 10.17. Three athletes — Jaheim Griffith of Racers, Jaheim Watson, and Jace Witter of GC Foster — were all timed at 10.31 in section three. Brendan Rodney of Sprint won his heat in 10.52 seconds.
The women’s 400 metres closed with Charice Boyd of William Knibb winning the last section in 58.05 seconds. Earlier, Shenica Lindsay of ADHS Track Team led heat one, and Amy Samuel of Alphonsus Davis won section two in 53.49 seconds. Camille Phillips of Alphonsus Davis took section three in 58.63.
Men’s 400 metres finals included Mark Manley of UTech winning section ten in 49.53 seconds, Nishan Walker of Titchfield in 48.10 in section six, and Chevron Warlow of UTech taking the last race in 49.62 seconds ahead of Shamali Wilson. Delano Kennedy had posted 45.81 in an earlier heat, the fastest of the evening over one lap.
During the broadcast, hosts noted overseas results for Jamaican athletes Deija Oakley, who ran 48.92 seconds to win the SEC 400 metres title, and Gabrielle Matthews, who went 10.97 seconds over 100 metres, becoming the ninth Jamaican woman under 11 seconds this season.
