Jamaica Plans Ticketing System To Curb Travel Litter
The Government is moving to introduce a ticket-based penalty system, modelled on how traffic breaches are handled, as part of efforts to reduce litter produced by people on the move across Jamaica.
Travel waste covers rubbish created during journeys, such as food wrappers, drink bottles and other throwaway items. Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness said the measure reflects the administration's push to refresh and strengthen the rules governing waste disposal. He said Jamaicans should recognise that responsible handling of garbage serves the country as a whole. Dr. Holness made the remarks at the National Solid Waste Management Authority's Long Service Award Ceremony.
