Jamaica should have generally fair weather overnight, with partly cloudy conditions expected across much of the island on Wednesday morning and cloudier skies developing in some areas by afternoon. The forecast follows active weather across the wider Caribbean, where strong low-level winds over open waters have been helping to push moisture toward the western Caribbean.

Winds across the basin were above 25 knots in some areas, contributing to increased cloud, shower and thunderstorm activity in the western Caribbean. The intertropical convergence zone was also producing broader cloud patches with a few isolated showers, while a weak tropical wave was forecast to drift toward the Pacific region over the next few days.

Overnight temperatures are expected to fall to 26 degrees Celsius in Kingston and 25 degrees Celsius in Montego Bay. Winds of about five knots are forecast along both coasts, blowing from the north on the south coast and from the east along the north coast.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kingston, Half-Way Tree and Portmore are expected to be partly to mostly cloudy and windy. Cloud cover should linger over Spanish Town, May Pen, Mandeville, Santa Cruz, Black River, Savanna-la-Mar and Negril. Strong winds are likely in Lucea, Montego Bay and Falmouth, while partly cloudy and windy weather should continue inland, including around Brown’s Town and Mocha. Isolated showers are possible in Christiana and Grange Hill.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 34 degrees Celsius in Kingston and 33 degrees Celsius in Montego Bay. Similar partly cloudy afternoon conditions are expected on Thursday, before scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms affect the island on Friday and Saturday.

At sea, north coast winds are forecast near 20 knots from the east on Wednesday, with waves between 1.5 and two metres. On the south coast, easterly winds should reach 25 knots, with seas of two to 2.5 metres. A small craft warning is in effect for the south coast and offshore waters on both coasts, where winds may reach 25 knots and waves 2.5 metres. The warning is expected to last through Thursday, before winds ease to a maximum of 20 knots on Friday and Saturday.

Sunset on Wednesday is forecast for 6:37 p.m. in Kingston and 6:43 p.m. at Negril Point.
