The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says extensive security and traffic management measures are being implemented to ensure the safe and orderly staging of this year’s Dream Weekend event series in St. James.
Speaking during the St. James Municipal Corporation’s monthly meeting on Thursday, Senior Superintendent of Police for Area One, SSP Eron Samuels, said the annual festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors to western Jamaica, with many staying in hotels as well as Airbnb accommodations across communities in the parish.
SSP Samuels said the police will maintain a strong presence throughout St. James during the event to help keep residents and visitors safe.
“We will be pushing hard to ensure that our presence is right across the parish, and we are asking for residents to work with us. If you see anything that is untoward, let us know early,” he said.
He emphasized that early reporting of suspicious activity can help prevent incidents and contribute to the smooth running of the event.
Business operators are also being encouraged to remain alert and report any concerns to the police as part of the collaborative effort to ensure public safety.
With increased traffic expected throughout the event period, SSP Samuels said additional police personnel from outside the parish will support local teams in managing traffic flow and easing congestion.
He expressed confidence that with the cooperation of residents, businesses and event organizers, Dream Weekend will be safely executed as St. James prepares for the lead-up to Jamaica’s Independence celebrations.
Now in its 17th year, Dream Weekend will be staged in Montego Bay for the first time after 16 successful years in Negril. The five-day festival will feature eight events and is expected to provide a major economic boost to western Jamaica.
