JPL quarter-finals open at National Stadium with Racing–Portmore and Cavalier–Waterhouse

The Jamaica Premier League (JPL) play-offs open at the National Stadium this Sunday with a pair of quarter-final first legs.
Racing United meet Portmore United at 5:00 pm, after which title holders Cavalier take on Waterhouse FC at 7:30 pm. Each tie is played over two legs, with progression settled on aggregate.
Racing and Portmore arrive off a league campaign in which neither side held a clear edge. Across their past five meetings, four ended level. Racing United, in the post-season for the first time since earning promotion two seasons back, wrapped a 39-fixture regular schedule by beating Spanish Town Police 4-0 to book their place. Up front, Tajay Grant has driven their offence with 16 goals and 27 shots on target so far this term. Portmore have leaned on a robust, combative approach all season and have collected 81 yellow cards. Leading marksman Ronaldo Robinson must unlock a Racing back line that has tightened up markedly in recent weeks.
Holders Cavalier line up against Waterhouse FC in the nightcap. Despite carrying the crown, Cavalier have struggled for results against Waterhouse lately: over the last five encounters Waterhouse have not lost, posting two wins and three draws. Waterhouse roll in on a strong run—only one defeat in their previous ten outings and only two goals shipped in that stretch, aside from one one-sided defeat. Waterhouse’s chief threat is Colorado Murray with 13 goals; Cavalier turn to Christopher Ainsworth, who tops their chart with 10 goals and five assists. Cavalier closed league play with a 2-1 victory over Harbour View to carry some rhythm into their defence of the trophy.
This year’s prize list reaches past domestic silverware. The two finalists will gain automatic entry to the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup. The side that wins the third-place play-off will also secure a route into the Caribbean Football Union Club Shield. Quarter-final winners advance to the semi-finals to meet Mount Pleasant and Montego Bay United, who skipped this round after placing first and second in the regular standings.
