Kersha Thomas Backs Frazsiers Whip To Seal Fourth Straight JWPL Crown

Kersha Thomas has twice walked away from Jamaica Women’s Premier League finals disappointed while representing Cavalier FC. On Saturday, she expects a different ending, saying she is ready to lift the trophy with Frazsiers Whip when they meet Arnett Gardens FC in the championship game.

Thomas was one of several Cavalier players who moved on at the close of last season. Her next stop was Frazsiers Whip, the three-time reigning JWPL champions, where she has settled into the midfield and become part of another strong campaign.

Frazsiers Whip enter the final trying to stretch their championship run to four straight seasons. They have again been the standout side, finishing first in their opening-round group before eliminating Real Mona 6-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals. Across the campaign, the favourites have produced close to 70 goals while allowing only five.

Thomas said she sees enough quality throughout the squad to believe another title is within reach.

“We are a well-rounded team; there are no weaknesses. We have a lot of talented players on the team and I believe in them,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

She also said the team’s place in the final reflects the work they have put in, not fortune.

“We have earned our place in the final. This was no accident, and we trust our preparation and we know that we will complete the job.”

Thomas, who has spent almost 10 years in the premier league, said she can operate in several areas of the pitch. At Frazsiers Whip, however, she believes her best contribution is now coming from central midfield, particularly in a defensive role.

“I have played different positions — on the wing and in the defence as well — but my position is defensive midfield.

“I am always scanning the field to know where my teammates are so as soon as I get the ball I know who to make the pass to.”

Although she only joined Frazsiers Whip at the beginning of the season, Thomas said settling into the squad was straightforward.

“I get along well with all the other players; we are a good team,” she declared.
