Kevin Downswell prepares sixth studio album and July single Steady on WYFL beat
Kevin Downswell, the gospel recording artist, evangelist, producer, author, and motivational speaker, is preparing to put out a fresh studio album before the month ends. The forthcoming set will mark his sixth full-length release and arrives as the successor to Grace (Brought Me Here), which came out in 2023.
Speaking with the Jamaica Observer last week, Downswell confirmed that work on the project is well under way. "Yes, I am working on the album, and it's going to be something very special. It will be one for the books, and I am also dropping a new single on July 16," he said.
In May, the singer recorded Steady over the widely circulated WYFL rhythm produced by DJ Mac and Crash Dummy. The track has drawn strong attention since its release, and Downswell said he appreciates the public reception.
"I am just truly grateful for the response," he said. "This song is for the remnant, and it's for anyone who feels surrounded by pressure, noise, trends, and spiritual warfare. If you've been challenged to compromise your true identity, and are fearful in this season, Steady is for you. The enemy wants us to be isolated, distracted, and unsure of who we are. But we will stand, Steady."
He described Steady as "a rallying cry for believers to remember who they are, whose they are, and what they have been called to represent in the earth for such a time as this". The lyrics are grounded in biblical teaching and take guidance from passages including Romans 12:2: "Be not conformed to this world, but be thou transformed by the renewing of your mind."
As part of its 50th Jubilee Year Celebrations, Portmore New Testament Church of God in Bayside, Portmore, St Catherine, will stage a Kevin Downswell pre-album launch worship experience on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
Downswell has built a reputation across the Caribbean through moving gospel performances and a compelling personal testimony. On National Heroes' Day last October, the Government of Jamaica honoured him with the Order of Distinction in the class of Officer. At the 2025 Sterling Awards, he collected Local Hit Producer of the Year, Local Hit of the Year, and Video of the Year.
His catalogue includes Bless Me, Midnight to Victory, My Year, Carry Me, If it's Not You, Grace, and You Make Me Stronger. He has also published The Search Continues – The Journey and Midnight To Victory – 90 Day Devotional.
An ordained evangelist, Downswell recently received a Doctor of Sacred Music from the Door of Favor Theological Seminary in New York, USA. Outside recording, his Realignment Initiative supports abused children whom he, his wife, and their team have mentored since 2017.
