Malie Donn Plans July Release For Golden Child Debut Album

Dancehall artiste Malie Donn is preparing to issue Golden Child, a 20-song debut album scheduled for July through VP Records. The project includes collaborations with Squash, Byron Messia and Javada, and follows his 2024 debut EP The Grand Rising, which was also released by VP Records. Since 2021, Malie Donn has gained wider attention in dancehall, with V6 becoming one of the Caribbean's major international hits of 2023 and helping raise his profile in the genre.

In overseas entertainment news, pop singer Sabrina Carpenter is asking a court for a restraining order against 31-year-old William Applegate, who she says repeatedly went to her Los Angeles residence. Court filings allege Applegate crossed security fencing, went up to her front door and attempted to open it before security stopped him. Carpenter says he claimed to know her and said she was expecting him. Police arrested him on a trespassing allegation, but she says he came back to the property during the following two days. Surveillance footage reportedly indicated he had been seen near the home for more than a month, and Carpenter says the episodes have made her afraid for her safety.

Idris Elba has received a knighthood. King Charles conferred the honour on the actor, activist and musician on Tuesday during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, recognising his service to young people. The King used a sword during the ceremony as Elba knelt, and the royal family congratulated Elba and other honourees. Elba and his wife Sabrina have founded a charity supporting diaspora communities. He is also a goodwill ambassador for the King's Trust and has said a grant from the royal charity helped him begin his arts career at age 18. Speaking with People at a Hijack season two screening in January, he said the recognition was still sinking in.

Celine Dion has paid tribute to Grammy-winning R&B singer Peabo Bryson after his death. Dion, who shared the 1993 Grammy for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal with Bryson for the title song from Disney's 1991 film Beauty and the Beast, posted on X that she was heartbroken. She recalled his kindness during their recording and said he helped her feel at ease while she was learning to sing in English. Bryson died Tuesday at 75, surrounded by family and loved ones. No cause of death has been publicly announced, though he suffered a stroke over the weekend and had been receiving medical care. His catalogue included Feel the Fire, I'm So Into You, Can You Stop the Rain, If Ever You're In My Arms Again and Reaching for the Sky, along with recordings with Roberta Flack such as the 1983 single Tonight I'll Celebrate My Love for You.
