Thieves steal millions from Scotiabank ABM at Portmore Braeton Parkway branch
Details are surfacing about a significant cash theft from an automated banking machine (ABM) at Scotiabank’s Portmore branch on Braeton Parkway in St Catherine. The amount taken has not been fixed, but it is believed to reach into the millions of dollars.
The incident is understood to have happened sometime between 3:00 pm on Saturday and the early hours of Sunday. Within that period, the offenders entered the ABM service room and removed a large quantity of money.
When approached for comment, the police offered little information on the case. Persons familiar with the matter, however, say surveillance video from the bank recorded what took place.
The footage is said to show men in black clothing and gloves who drove a grey Nissan Latio sedan onto the branch compound. They left the vehicle and then made their way into the ABM service room.
Those sources also indicate that security codes were used to open several ABM safes before the men removed an undetermined sum thought to total millions in both United States and Jamaican currency.
Investigations into the theft are continuing.
