McKenzie Backs SDC and Pledges Extra $50 Million for Church Hurricane Cleanup
Opposition figures have contended that the Social Development Commission (SDC) lacks sufficient resources, but Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie has offered a forceful rebuttal.
McKenzie described the SDC as "one of the best things since sliced bread", pointing to its contributions to community development and to disaster recovery work across the country.
He further disclosed that an additional $50 million will be made available to support churches still requiring help with cleanup in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.
The SDC will manage the rollout of the new funding.
