Met Service warns of weekend showers, thunderstorms and strong winds across Jamaica
Jamaica is being told to prepare for unsettled conditions over the weekend, according to the Met Service.
The agency said in a statement yesterday that a trough over the Central Caribbean shifted close to the island last night and is expected to stay in the area until around the middle of next week.
Forecasters expect increased cloud cover, along with spells of rain and thunderstorms that could become heavy at intervals. The weather is projected to affect parts of most parishes, with eastern and south-central Jamaica expected to see the greater impact from today until next Tuesday.
The Met Service also said powerful winds linked to a low-level jet stream are likely, particularly over southern parishes, starting tomorrow.
Fishers and other marine operators, especially those working inshore and offshore along the south coast, are being urged to take extreme care. Sea conditions are forecast to worsen near showers and thunderstorms from today, and also because of strong, gusty winds from tomorrow.
