ST JAMES, Jamaica: Police in St James are investigating the killing of Kelvin Pyne, a 42-year-old fruit vendor from Orange who was also called “Scarrie”.
Pyne, who was known in Montego Bay’s vending community, was shot on Saturday night. Reports say the attack happened at, or close to, the spot where he sold fruit.
About 11:30 p.m., his body was located on Miriam Way in Montego Bay. He was lying face down and had several gunshot injuries. Pyne was taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had died.
Investigators have not yet said what led to the shooting, and no motive has been established. The killing has added to unease among residents and business operators over violence in the city.
The St James police say they have opened a probe and are following leads as they try to find the persons responsible and establish the events that ended in Pyne’s death. More information is expected when it becomes available.
