The Morant Bay Police Station in St. Thomas has been awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification, marking another milestone in the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) drive to improve service quality and operational excellence.
Speaking at the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation’s monthly meeting on Thursday, Commanding Officer for the division, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rohan Ritchie, said the certification reflects the station’s high standard of efficiency and service delivery.
DSP Ritchie explained that the ISO 9001:2015 certification is an internationally recognized quality management standard that evaluates an organization’s systems and performance.
“The audit revealed that we are on par with investigation services, community interventions, reports in terms of police certificates and emergency response to assignments given to the station (calls for service),” he said.
He noted that the Morant Bay Police Station now joins more than 30 JCF locations, including headquarters and several major divisional stations, that have achieved the prestigious certification.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) develops globally recognized standards that promote quality, consistency and operational excellence across industries. ISO certification signifies that an organization meets strict international quality management requirements.
Meanwhile, DSP Ritchie also reported continued improvements in public safety across St. Thomas, noting a 35 per cent reduction in murders along with declines in most other major crime categories.
He added that police have seen significant progress in addressing hazards caused by fallen aggregates along the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project. However, he said public education efforts and enforcement measures will continue as authorities work to further reduce the problem.
