Morris pushes for two rotating sign language interpreters at Senate sittings
Opposition Senator Dr. Floyd Morris is calling for Jamaica's upper chamber to strengthen its sign language interpretation arrangements so they match local expectations and international standards.
Dr. Morris raised the issue during today's Senate sitting after proceedings got under way without an interpreter in place. He told the chamber this was not an isolated incident.
The senator argued that at least two interpreters should be assigned to Parliamentary sessions, with duties rotated to guard against tiredness, translation mistakes, and missed appearances.
Senate President Tom Tavares Finson said the House Clerk is handling the matter. He also directed the Clerk to consult with Senator Morris on how the situation will be addressed.
