NAJ chief presses leaders for structural backing as Nurses Week opens

1 min readClarendon

Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) president Dawn Marie Richards has called for stronger structural support so nurses can work at full capacity in their roles.

She made the appeal yesterday while addressing NAJ’s ecumenical church service at the May Pen Seventh-day Adventist Church.

National Nurses Week is being observed from July 18 to July 24 under the theme “Our nurses. Our future. Empowered nurses save lives.”

Mrs. Richards warned that when those in authority withhold that backing, the health and wellness of Jamaicans are put in jeopardy. She urged nurses to take ownership of their power to save lives and lift health outcomes islandwide, while stressing that they cannot do so without support from leadership.
