Area 8 reclaim JCF National Athletics Championships crown at Mona

Area 8 captured the 2026 Jamaica Constabulary Force National Athletics Championships on day two at the Usain Bolt Stadium, also known as the UWI Mona Bowl, finishing with 260.5 points and securing its 37th championship title.

Area 2 ended second with 176 points, while Area 5 placed third on 169.5. Area 7 followed with 158 points, defending champions Area 6 finished fifth on 150, Area 3 were sixth with 108, Area 1 seventh with 104, and Area 4 eighth with 81.

The championship brought together teams from Areas 1 to 8 in track and field, novelty events, relays and tug of war. Area 8 closed strongly in the relays, winning the men’s 4x400 metres in 3:24.19 and taking the women’s 4x400 metres ahead of Area 6 and Area 7.

Among the individual highlights, Jamilia Dale of Area 6 won the women’s 100 metres in 13.50 seconds, while Sanjay Macdonald of Area 8 took the men’s 100 metres in 11.44. Demali Dobson of Area 7 won the women’s 400 metres in 58.90, and Kimmani Smith of Area 3 claimed the men’s 400 metres in 48.05.

The tug of war title went to Area 2, who defeated Area 8 in the final. Area 2 was also named the most improved team.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security and Peace Dr Horace Chang attended the meet and encouraged further development of sporting and recreational facilities within the JCF. Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake was also present and took part in the law enforcement torch run linked to Special Olympics Jamaica fundraising efforts.

The meet opened with prayer by acting force chaplain Reverend Dr Courtney Faulner and remarks from senior officers, including ACP Clifford Chambers, who represented the commissioner at the opening ceremony.
