A fresh murder conspiracy trial involving convicted murderer Omar Collymore has been postponed after prosecutors requested more time to complete their case file.
The matter, which was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, was adjourned until September 18 in the Home Circuit Court.
Collymore, who is currently serving double life sentences for orchestrating the 2018 murders of his wife, Simone Campbell-Collymore, and taxi operator Winston Walters, is now facing separate charges linked to an alleged plot to murder another woman with whom he was reportedly involved.
He and four co-accused—Carey Jonas, Dwayne Pink, Michael Adams, and Shaquille Edwards—are charged with conspiracy to murder, shooting with intent, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors were expected to outline the details of the alleged conspiracy when the trial opened. However, the Crown requested additional time to finalise its case, resulting in the adjournment.
Pink, Adams and Edwards are already serving prison sentences alongside Collymore for their roles in the January 2, 2018 murders of Campbell-Collymore and Walters. Jonas is facing indictment in this separate matter and was not involved in the 2018 killings.
The 2018 murders shocked Jamaica after Campbell-Collymore and Walters were ambushed by gunmen on motorcycles outside the Forest Ridge apartment complex in Red Hills, St Andrew.
Campbell-Collymore was shot 19 times, while Walters sustained five gunshot wounds.
During Collymore’s previous trial, prosecutors argued successfully that he arranged the killings to collect multimillion-dollar life insurance payouts. Evidence presented in court showed that their two children were entitled to 15 per cent each of the insurance proceeds, while Collymore stood to receive the remaining 70 per cent.
