The Manchester Municipal Corporation has moved to deny approvals for night-time entertainment events at two locations in Mandeville, after residents and business operators raised repeated complaints about disruptive noise and disorder in the town. Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell said the action was outlined at this month’s municipal corporation meeting.

Mitchell said events along Perth Road and Villa Road, close to the Mandeville Town Centre, have become a major nuisance for nearby communities. He stated that the corporation’s accounts department has been directed not to accept payments from promoters seeking to host events at those specific spots, effectively meaning no permit approval will be granted there.

He described noise pollution as the main issue and said residents have been pressing him to intervene. According to Mitchell, people have been asking what further steps can be taken with law enforcement when disturbances continue late into the night.

The mayor also pointed to traffic and access problems, including a recent incident on Villa Road where he said movement was blocked by a party setup. He argued that the affected areas lack proper public sanitation and adequate parking for large crowds. He said vehicles have been seen lining both sides of nearby roads, including sections of Hargreaves Avenue, creating congestion in a zone used by persons trying to reach major medical facilities.

Mitchell further raised health and hygiene concerns, saying residents and business interests have reported public urination on private walls during events. He added that medical professionals living in and around Bloomfield Street and Bloomfield Circle have complained about not being able to rest because of high noise levels at night, despite needing to return to work early the next day.

He said the intention is not to end social events in Mandeville, but to ensure stricter control where current conditions are affecting public order, sanitation and access.
