MANCHESTER, Jamaica : Two Killed in Mandeville Shooting — A nursing student and another man were shot and killed after a gunman, who reportedly posed as a passenger in a public taxi, opened fire on occupants of the vehicle in Mandeville on Saturday night.
The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Deneekia Pounall, a nursing student at Knox Community College from Heartease district, and 21-year-old Sadefa Henry of Greenvale.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when Pounall, Henry and five other passengers were travelling in a Toyota Voxy operating on the Mandeville to Royal Flat route.
Investigators say a man who had been travelling as a passenger exited the taxi at a section of Caledonia Road, commonly known as Horseshoe Curve, before pulling a firearm and opening fire on the vehicle.
Pounall and Henry were both shot during the attack. They were rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where Pounall was pronounced dead on arrival. Henry later succumbed to his injuries.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and police are continuing their investigations into the deadly attack. Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the police.
