Two Men Killed in Separate Stabbing Incidents Across St Elizabeth and Clarendon
Law enforcement officials are investigating two unrelated fatal stabbings that occurred on Sunday in St Elizabeth and Clarendon, with suspects now in police custody in both matters.
The victims have been identified as 22-year-old Tajay Atkins, an unemployed resident of the Union district in Balaclava, St Elizabeth, and 57-year-old Errol Nelson, a businessman from the Brandon Hill area of Crofts Hill, Clarendon.
Officers said Atkins was discovered behind his Union, Balaclava, residence shortly after 6:30 a.m. with several stab wounds to his body. A medical practitioner who attended the scene pronounced him dead there.
Investigators report that the man believed to have carried out the attack later surrendered to the police. He remains detained while detectives from the Black River Criminal Investigation Branch continue their inquiry.
In the Clarendon incident, Nelson was attacked at his business, the Breadfruit Tree Shop on Brandon Hill in Crofts Hill, at around 2 p.m. and did not survive. Police said the alleged assailant was subsequently arrested.
Members of the May Pen Criminal Investigation Branch have been assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding Nelson's death.
The two killings form part of a wider pattern of fatal stabbing incidents reported in several parishes across the island in recent days, with the constabulary pursuing separate lines of inquiry into each attack.
