Portmore Student and inDrive Operator Shot Dead: A routine trip to the mall ended in tragedy for a Portmore family after 21-year-old Brianna Taylor and 22-year-old inDrive operator Michael Angrin were shot and killed in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew, on Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor, a student at Portmore Community College, had left her Portmore, St Catherine home after her mother asked her to buy groceries, pay an insurance bill and purchase two patties.

According to police reports, Taylor and Angrin, of Braeton, Portmore, were travelling in a motor vehicle along Mall Road in Olympic Gardens at about 3:50 p.m. when unknown assailants opened fire.

A third person who was in the vehicle escaped unharmed.

The injured victims were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Detectives assigned to the Major Investigation Division (MID) are investigating the double murder.

Speaking on Wednesday, Brianna’s mother, Maurine Haynes-Taylor, said her daughter gave no indication that she intended to travel outside Portmore.

“I sent her to the mall to get some stuff, pay my insurance and buy two patties for me,” she said.

Haynes-Taylor recalled that they shared a meal before Brianna left home.

She later received a call from a police officer asking her to meet them at Tranquility funeral home.

She said she was initially told they had her daughter and that she was okay, but upon arriving she learned Brianna had died.

Haynes-Taylor said Angrin was someone she had seen before, as he had visited the family’s business where Brianna helped to serve customers.

She believes her daughter may have changed her plans after leaving home following a phone conversation.

Brianna had recently taken a break from her studies and planned to return to school in September. According to her mother, she had also been planning to start a business importing products from China.

The 21-year-old was the youngest of three children and her mother’s only daughter. Known affectionately as “Teddy Bear,” she was described as well-liked by customers at the family business.

Investigators said the shooter reportedly put a gun through the vehicle’s window and opened fire. Police have since launched a manhunt for the killer or killers.
