Jamaican striker Renaldo Cephas has agreed a three-year contract with Qarabağ FK of the Azerbaijan Premier League, his fourth club outside Jamaica at age 26.
The move gives Cephas a route back into European competition. Qarabağ will compete in the Europa League next season after becoming the first Azerbaijani club to reach the Champions League knockout rounds last term. Their continental campaign opens in the Europa League first qualifying round on July 9 against Iceland's Vestri.
Cephas said several offers were on the table, but Qarabağ stood out for its quality and the chance to play in Europe again.
"Qarabağ is a very good team," Cephas said. "We had a lot of other options, but this one stood out to me. You will also be playing in Europe, and it has been a while since I played in European competition. My agent, Kevin Cowan, and I sat down and picked this option. For me, it is a great move, and I am looking forward to getting the job done for the club."
Cephas described the transfer as a strong step in his career and said he is ready to contribute once he joins the squad.
