Ronald Koeman has resigned as head coach of the Netherlands national team, ending his tenure after the Dutch were knocked out of the World Cup at the Round of 32.
The 63-year-old confirmed he was stepping down once Morocco eliminated the Netherlands in a penalty shootout, with the Dutch failing to convert three of their kicks and bringing their tournament run to a close.
Koeman made the announcement on Instagram, saying that leaving the post during his second spell in charge was a painful moment, while also expressing pride in the work done and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the side.
The former Barcelona manager returned to the Netherlands job in 2023, overseeing the team's World Cup qualifying efforts before their campaign ended with an early knockout-stage defeat.
