Martinez Picks Ronaldo for Portugal’s Sixth World Cup Squad

Cristiano Ronaldo is set for a sixth World Cup at 41 after Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez unveiled a 27-player squad on Tuesday. Martinez also marked a symbolic “plus one” on the list in tribute to the late Diogo Jota.
Portugal enter the finals as reigning Nations League champions. The side will play across the United States, Mexico and Canada, beginning Group K against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Houston on June 17. They take on Uzbekistan at the same venue on June 23 and close the group against Colombia in Miami on June 27.
Competition runs from June 11 through July 19. Many analysts see the tournament as Ronaldo’s last serious chance to claim football’s top international honour.
