Seiveright backs manufacturing with tax relief, energy reform after Kingston plant visit

Delano Seiveright, State Minister for Industry and Commerce, said the administration is still pressing ahead with measures to lift Jamaica’s manufacturing sector, including tax relief, energy reform and wider improvements to the business environment.
He spoke after touring Sanmerna Paper Products Limited in Kingston. Sanmerna is among the island’s largest Jamaican-owned paper manufacturers.
Seiveright said the government remains committed to backing manufacturers through initiatives such as the production equipment programme and the Accelerated Capital Allowance Programme. He also highlighted ongoing electricity sector reforms, including recently approved new licence terms for the Jamaica Public Service Company, aimed at improving efficiency, resilience and long-term outcomes for businesses and consumers.
He said Jamaica is positioning itself to better withstand those pressures through stronger infrastructure, faster post-Hurricane Melissa recovery efforts and continued engagement with the productive sector.
