EAST RUTHERFORD, United States (AFP) — The World Cup title match between Spain and Argentina finished regulation all square on Sunday and moved into extra time, with neither side finding the net after 90 minutes. Argentina were reduced to 10 players for the closing stages.
Spain, the reigning European champions, controlled more of the ball at MetLife Stadium and created the clearer openings, yet still failed to convert.
Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez was dismissed in stoppage time after picking up a second yellow card for a reckless challenge.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina are chasing a fourth world title, while Spain are hoping to claim the prize for only the second time.
