Governor General Honours 39 Jamaicans at King’s House Achievement Awards
Thirty-nine Jamaicans were recognised on Thursday with Governor General’s Achievement Awards during a ceremony at King’s House, where Governor General Sir Patrick Allen hailed their contribution to communities across the island.
The awards presentation was staged under the theme, ‘The Power of Us: Where Vision Meets Excellence’. Those singled out included justice of the peace and community activist Kaydia Clair of St Andrew, Ministry of Health and Wellness communications specialist Karl Brown of St Ann, youth leader Janiel McEwan of St James, and educator Tiffany Copes of St Andrew.
In remarks at the function, Allen commended the awardees for seeing what was missing in their communities and stepping forward to address it. “You saw a gap and bridged it. You saw a young person without direction and became their compass — not because it was easy, but because it was necessary,” he said.
He said every recipient started with a desire to improve Jamaica and noted that their efforts were strengthened by people who backed them along the way. Allen also stressed that neither personal success nor national progress happens alone, saying both depend on the often-unseen help of relatives, volunteers and donors throughout the country.
“All of us together become the power that we can celebrate. When vision meets the collective will of a people determined to rise, barriers become bridges, obstacles become stepping stones, and the impossible simply becomes the next thing that is to be done. The stories of our recipients bear eloquent witness to this truth,” Allen declared.
