Kingston Creative Opens Three Public Art Calls for Jamaican Muralists

Kingston Creative has announced three mural opportunities at the same time, asking Jamaican artists to submit ideas for major public artworks in Kingston and Montego Bay.
The commissions are being carried out with the Norwegian Seafood Council, Digicel Foundation and Doctors’ Cave Bathing Club, and will focus on Jamaican food culture, environmental awareness and heritage. Applications are open now, with the closing dates extending into June 2026.
The organisation says the three projects represent a wider push into public art. “Saltfish & Soul”, the first commission, is being done with Norwegian Seafood for a wall at Church Street and Water Lane in Downtown Kingston, within the Water Lane Art District.
The second project, “Montego Bay – Past, Present & Future”, is linked to Doctors’ Cave Bathing Club. It is planned as the third mural in a series supporting cultural tourism development around Sam Sharpe Square.
The third mural, “Nature in Action”, will be placed on Constant Spring Road at the Abilities Foundation, a registered vocational training institution that has served persons with disabilities since 1992. With the Digicel Foundation as partner, the artwork will form the main visual feature of a green infrastructure project that includes rain gardens and bioswales.
“Public art is an opportunity to tell our story in a powerful way that connects directly with the people,” said Andrea Dempster Chung, Executive Director of Kingston Creative. “These three open calls celebrate gastronomy and our culinary identity, honour the history of our second city, Montego Bay, and use creativity as a tool for environmental education. We are calling on Jamaica’s artists to step forward and put their mark in spaces that will have an impact on communities for years to come.”
Kingston Creative said launching all three mural calls together shows its expanding role in linking corporate sponsors, community organisations and Jamaica’s creative industry. Artists are being urged to read the full briefs and send in proposals before the relevant cut-off dates.
The deadline for “Montego Bay – Past, Present & Future” with Doctors’ Cave Bathing Club is May 24, 2026, at kingstoncreative.org/opencall. “Saltfish & Soul”, with Norwegian Seafood in the Water Lane District, closes May 31, 2026, at kingstoncreative.org/opencall. “Nature in Action”, for the Abilities Foundation at 191 Constant Spring Road, closes June 8, 2026, at forms.gle/ikRQTJ5AQzqTG1YT6.
