TROY, Trelawny — A heavy atmosphere of tension blankets the Troy community this afternoon as residents take to the streets in protest, caught in the volatile fallout of a horrific child murder and a subsequent vigilante attack.
Protests initially ignited following the brutal sexual assault and murder of 10-year-old Shani Coke. Her body was discovered in the local bushes shortly after 6:00 PM on Tuesday, partially nude and with her throat slashed.
In the wake of the child’s killing, a mob attack targeted alleged sex offender Delroy Coke, ultimately resulting in his death.
According to reports, law enforcement has since arrested one man in connection with Delroy Coke’s fatal mob attack.
Rather than quelling the situation, the arrest has provoked intense community backlash, with local residents mounting angry demonstrations to demand the suspect’s immediate release
