 The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs pays tribute to the Honourable Oswald Harding, OJ, CD, KC, an outstanding jurist, statesman, and public servant whose contributions to Jamaica’s legal and justice landscape remain indelibly etched in our nation’s history.

Appointed Minister of Justice in 1986 and having also served with distinction as Attorney General of Jamaica, Mr. Harding brought to public life a profound respect for the rule of law, constitutional governance, and the administration of justice. Throughout his tenure, he championed measures aimed at strengthening the institutions of justice and enhancing public confidence in the legal system.

As Attorney General, he rendered yeoman service in shaping and fortifying Jamaica’s legal framework. His stewardship helped to advance sound legislative development and provided critical legal guidance during significant periods of national growth and transformation.

His commitment to legal excellence contributed to the creation and preservation of a robust legal architecture that continues to serve the people of Jamaica today.
