Kari Lake Put Forward as Trump's Nominee for United States Ambassador to Jamaica

United States President Donald Trump forwarded Kari Lake's name to the Senate on Monday as his nominee to serve as Washington's ambassador to Jamaica, after a difficult period at the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM).

If the Senate confirms her, she would assume an embassy post that has remained unfilled since former ambassador Nick Perry stepped down in January 2025. Career diplomat Scott Renner has been carrying out the duties on an acting basis in the meantime.

Lake welcomed the development on social media, saying she knows Jamaica well and wants to broaden cooperation between the two countries. "Jamaica is a country I know very well, full of incredible people, and if confirmed by the Senate, I look forward to strengthening the partnership between our nations, advancing America's interests abroad, and building on the deep frienship shared by the American and Jamaican people."

The nomination arrives at a delicate moment, as Jamaica and its Caribbean neighbours manage an increasingly complicated relationship with the United States.
