Two Westmoreland Policemen Freed of Charges in 2013 Triple-Fatal Shooting Case

Two police officers who were attached to the Whithorne Police station in Whithorne, Westmoreland, and were charged in connection with the 2013 police fatal shooting of two brothers and their cousin in Shrewsbury community, were freed of charges when they appeared before the Home Circuit Court in Kingston, on Wednesday.
The accused cops, Constables Damane Campbell and Kenroy Hinds, were charged following the March 15, 2013 police fatal shooting which claimed the lives of Andrew Brydson, his brother Tristan Brydson, and their cousin, Kingsley Green.
Over the one month trial, Campbell was represented by Attorneys, Peter Champagnie, Samoi Campbell and Sayeed Bernard, while Hinds was represented by Zara Lewis and Jacqueline Samuels -Brown.
Reports are that, both officers who were stationed at the Whithorne police station, went to a premises in Shrewsbury community, in search of armed men.
The accused cops, gave a report that on entering the premises, they were fired upon by armed men, and they took evasive actions and returned the fire, resulting in all three men being fatally shot.
They also reported that a high powered rifle and a handgun were taken from the dead men.
The shooting incident sparked a firey protest by residents who stated that the men were killed in cold blood, and following an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigation, a file was sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and a recommendation was made for both officers to be charged in connection with the deaths of the three men.
During the trial, the attorneys representing the accused cops filed no case submissions to the presiding Judge, who upheld the application, and ordered that the officers be acquitted of charges.
