Khadija Shaw’s Manchester City future unclear after standout WSL season
Khadija “Bunny” Shaw’s club future remains unsettled, with the Reggae Girlz captain entering the final year of her deal at Manchester City after her most productive Women’s Super League season to date.
The 29-year-old striker was named WSL Player of the Season following a dominant campaign. She also secured the Golden Boot for a third straight season, scoring 21 goals in 22 matches as City won their first WSL title in 10 years.
Shaw’s individual honours have continued to pile up. She received the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year award earlier in May and was also named Manchester City’s Player of the Season on Sunday.
Despite those achievements, her next move is still uncertain as her contract is due to expire in the summer. Shaw said her focus has remained on her work on the pitch, adding that her performances are the part of the situation she can control. She said any decision on whether she stays at City or leaves will depend on discussions between her representatives and the club.
The Jamaican forward also indicated that she still has strong ties to Manchester City, even with WSL rivals Chelsea viewed as favourites to sign her on a free transfer. Shaw said Manchester has felt like home since her arrival and noted that the club is now reaching its targets by winning trophies.
City still have another trophy opportunity, with Shaw set to face Brighton in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday. She said she is excited to return to the venue, having played there once before and lost.
Shaw joined Manchester City in 2021. She has finished as the club’s top scorer in four of her five seasons and owns the WSL record for most hat-tricks, with six.
