Caribbean Cement boosts Jamaica supply after April rain delays

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Caribbean Cement Company Limited says the local market is seeing better access to cement after weather problems in April interrupted its operations, with supply now up by more than 20 per cent.

In a Wednesday statement, Managing Director Jorge Martinez said the company has been working to steady availability while responding to heavy demand in Jamaica.

“Between April and May 2026, CCCL increased production by more than 50 per cent and customer dispatches by over 23 per cent, driving record sales of about 110,757 metric tonnes and surpassing the previous high of 108,500 metric tonnes set in March 2021 during COVID-19,” Martinez said.

He added: “To support local demand, we also leveraged our Cemex network to import up to 23,852 metric tonnes of cement at the end of May, with additional shipments to reinforce supply and maintain market stability.”

The company said it has started several measures to lift efficiency and improve service to customers. Those efforts include increasing warehouse space islandwide, placing greater focus on finished-product dependability, and bringing in equipment to raise output.

Caribbean Cement is also working with the Incorporated Master Builders’ Association to create a database covering selected building projects, which the company said should support better supply planning and management.

It said customer communication is also being upgraded so buyers can receive faster information and assistance. Caribbean Cement said it remains focused on providing a dependable and sustainable supply of cement for Jamaica’s development and economic growth.
