Four men were killed today in what police have described as an alleged armed encounter with lawmen in the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine. Their identities have not yet been made public.
Reports say a member of the police force was also hit by gunfire and injured during the episode. Hugh Faulkner, commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations, said investigators are still working to establish the circumstances. He also said the wounded policeman was taken to hospital for medical care. INDECOM says 143 people have died in alleged confrontations with security forces since January.
