Small businesses urged to use Jamaica's 20% government procurement reserve

Jamaican small businesses are being reminded that a 2019 procurement law reserves 20 per cent of government contract opportunities for their sector, out of billions of dollars in public spending.

The Funded and Focused segment says firms can better pursue those openings when they understand the qualifying rules and the types of contracts available under the system. That knowledge can help owners avoid missing programmes intended to support small-business participation.

The segment pointed to Trevon, a client who runs a solar equipment installation company. After studying the reserved procurement arrangement and using professional guidance, he identified contract prospects tailored to businesses such as his, a move described as transformative for the company.
