Three killed after police exchange fire with suspects on Caledonia Road
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Police have confirmed that three people, including one woman, were killed when officers exchanged gunfire with suspects during an alleged shootout on Caledonia Road in Mandeville on Saturday afternoon.
According to early accounts, officers received a report around 4:00 pm of a string of robberies and later stopped a suspected escape vehicle close to Horseshoe Curve. A senior police source said those inside the car fired first at the officers, who then shot back. What followed was an extended standoff that spilled into a running gunfight.
Police stated that the woman and two men were removed from the stopped vehicle and taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The confrontation took place near the scene of a double killing the previous Saturday, when nursing student Deenekia Pounall and Sadefa Henry were shot dead in a taxi by a gunman who boarded posing as a passenger.
